With more than 70 percent of Estero residents being older than 45, nearly 41 percent being 65 or older and the council and mayor’s salary set at $6,000 and $9,000 respectively, one could assume that council will be comprised of mostly retirees. “I’m giving it serious consideration, but I haven’t made a firm decision on it,” said Levitan, who would like to continue the work started by the ECCL. So far no one else has declared their candidacy for council, but Howard Levitan, the ECCL’s government relations chairman is leaning that way. Once the council is seated on March 17, they will then appoint one member to serve as mayor. There will be just a handful of paid employees - village manager, village attorney, village clerk, a couple administrative positions and seven councilmembers - one of whom will serve as mayor.Ĭandidates for the new council have until January 16 to file their paperwork with the Lee County Supervisor of Elections for a March election. “I’ll make it official on November 14,” he told the Spotlight in early November.Īccording to Estero’s incorporation charter, the new village will employ a government-lite system and mold itself - at least early on - like that of Bonita Springs. “I am running and I told the ECCL I’m running,” said Boesch, a former mayor of Wethersfield, Connecticut. Now the real work for this 30-square-mile village begins, said Jim Boesch, a member of the Estero Council of Community Leaders and one who had been pushing for incorporation for at least seven years. On December 31, Estero will officially become the area’s newest municipality since the city of Bonita Springs formed in 1999. The plan to become Florida’s newest city and Lee County’s sixth municipality was approved by 12,234 with 1,947 opposed.Īfter spending almost two years meeting with Lee County officials and residents, the hard work of the Estero Council of Community Leaders paid off. On November 4, 86 percent of Estero voters supported incorporation. This time around, establishing a village wasn’t about communal living as much as it was about maintaining communal identity. After Teed’s death in 1908, Estero returned to being part of unincorporated Lee County. Or, more accurately, an incorporated village.Įstero first incorporated in 1904, shortly after Cyrus Teed established the community for his followers who believed humans live on the inside of Earth’s outer skin. Estero - After nearly 100 years of being a part of unincorporated Lee County, Estero is now a city again. Perhaps if the resort gets a new management.ECCL members Election Night at Elks Lodge: John Goodrich, Howard Levitan, Nick Batos, Marilyn Edwards, Bob Lienesch. ![]() I really hope the city government of Quezon and Laguna will do something about this nature park. The lower pools is too muddy you wouldn't dare swim in it. The man made pool didn't make a difference either. The pools tend to become very crowded especially the one near the falls. Its a wonderful place and I can see so much potential in it, if only it has good management. 1/4 kilo of sugar is 20 pesos and a kilo of NFA rice is 70 pesos. Lo and behold, they have locals selling it at a very steep price. If ever you forget to bring rice or sugar. I also don't like the muddy hallways and the stairs down the waterfalls was full of molds, its slippery. ![]() There are no hampers for wet clothes either. The shower valves were defective, one keeps falling off and the other doesn't have any valve at all. The cottage (Sapphire) we rented was very expensive for Php 7000 (on a daytour), especially it has no airconditioning and we only have 2 fans in the bedroom with 5 bunk beds. ![]() The entrance is very affordable, perhaps because there's not much maintenance provided. ![]() Maybe they could consider having a hot herbal pool too. I love the mini falls and the super cold water, it's not advisable for kids though, my daughter only dipped twice because it is too cold for her. Being a traveller, this is a destination very close to nature.
